Electronic flight bags (EFBs) can mean pilots no longer have to lug huge amounts of paperwork around, but airlines have sometimes struggled to make the business case add up.
There are signs of this changing as the EFB becomes more sophisticated and airlines have an opportunity to use them as a management tool rather than just a paper saving device. Cathay Pacific is currently trialling and Arinc system on a Boeing 777. The Hong Kong carrier suggests that a key part of the business case may well be the ability of the system to link into onboard sales.
