China's largest all-Airbus operator, Sichuan Airlines, has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo powered by Pratt & Whitney’s revolutionary PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines.
“Sichuan Airlines was the first airline in China to fly our V2500 engine,” said Chris Calio, president, Commercial Engines, Pratt & Whitney. “We’re happy to continue our relationship through the GTF-powered A320neo.”
Sichuan Airlines now operates a fleet of 100 A320 family aircraft, of which more than 85 are powered by either GTF or V2500 powerplants.
In-service performance of the Geared Turbofan engine, which entered service in early 2016, has demonstrated its promised ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, regulated emissions by 50 percent and noise footprint by 75 percent.
