First Philippines Microsatellite Successfully Deployed by JAXA

DIWATA-1, the first satellite developed by the Philippines has been successfully deployed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The milestone achievement was also the first time that JAXA has deployed a 50 kg-class microsatellite from the ISS Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo". JAXA was in charge of the launch and deployment of DIWATA-1 into orbit and the agency expects more expansion in the use and operation of microsatellites in the Asian region and beyond. The development costs of DIWATA-1 were incurred by the Republic of the Philippines and the task took a year to complete

Thales Alenia Space Launches Autonomous Stratospheric Airship Programme

Thales Alenia Space has started its Stratobus autonomous stratospheric airship research & development project, which has just received approval from the French government’s “investment in the future” program.  The total funding of 17 million euros will cover a 24-month development phase for key enabling technologies, culminating in the construction of a demonstrator. Additional funding to the tune of about 3 million euros is expected as the project has also won support from four different French regions.

Flybe Adds Fifth ATR 72-600

Leading UK regional airline, Flybe has taken delivery of its fifth new ATR 72-600 regional transport aircraft (RTA) from commercial passenger aircraft lessor, Avation PLC. The new aircraft will be operated on behalf of Scandinavian Airlines (“SAS”) under a wet lease operational contract arrangement  by Flybe.

China’s Xiamen Airlines Places Orders for 10 Next-Generation 737s

China's only all-Boeing carrier Xiamen Airlines has placed an order with Boeing for 10 Next-Generation 737-800s, worth US$ 960 million at list prices. The carrier now has 17 737-700s, 108 737-800s, 4 757-200s and 6 787-8 Dreamliners, for a total fleet of 135 Boeing Family airplanes.

Air France Receives 70th Boeing 777 Jetliner

French flag carrier, Air France has taken delivery of its 70th 777 from Boeing, marking a new milestone for the airline. The airline was the launch customer for both the 777-300ER in 2004 and the 777 Freighter in 2009. The first 777-200ER was delivered by Boeing to Air France in March 1998.
