Airshow Flies High

Singapore Airshow 2012

Singapore Airshow defied talk of a slowdown in the industry and region, with a record attendance for last week's industry bonanza. “Singapore Airshow 2012 has been a success for everyone,” asserted Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Experia Events, organiser of Singapore Airshow.

Lion Air places massive 737 MAX order
Date Posted: 18 Nov 2011

Lion Air

Boeing has won a massive order from Indonesia's Lion Air for 201 737 MAXs and 29 737-900ERs with a list price of US$21.7 billion.

The deal also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 aircraft, putting the potential total order to 380 aircraft. The agreement is a big fillip for Boeing, which has seen the Airbus A320neo take the honours with some significant deals in the region since its launch earlier this year. The deal is one more than the 200 A320neo aircraft that AirAsia ordered at the Paris Air Show - surely no coincidence! Boeing says the 230 aircraft deal is its largest ever deal in terms of number of units and dollar value.

Airbus/Boeing rake in Dubai orders
Date Posted: 18 Nov 2011

777-300ERs

Airbus and Boeing both come away from the Dubai Air Show with huge orders added to the books, as the Middle East continues to be a key growth driver for the industry.

Boeing left with an order from Emirates for 50 777-300ERs valued at US$18 billion at list price and pulled in another for two 777 freighters from Qatar Airways valued at US$560 million. The Emirates order was the company's largest ever in terms of value until being trumped a few days later by the Lion Air deal. The deal also makes 2011 the best-selling year for the 777 program, surpassing the previous record of 154 orders set in 2005. With the Emirates order, the 2011 net order book for the 777 currently stands at 182. Emirates also has options for 20 additional airplanes is valued at $8 billion.
