787 pushed back to third quarter Date Posted: 29 Jun 2011

Boeing has pushed back the first delivery date for the 787 again, saying it is likely to be in the third quarter of this year rather than the current quarter. The announcement comes in the wake of a fire in the aft electronics bay on a test flight in November last year that caused damage to test aircraft AZ0002. Boeing says that as well as the in-flight fire, the new delivery date includes the time required to produce, install and test updated software and new electrical power distribution panels in the flight test and production airplanes. “This revised timeline for first delivery accommodates the work we believe remains to be done to complete testing and certification of the 787,” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. “We’ve also restored some margin in the schedule to allow for any additional time that may be needed to complete certification activities,” Fancher said.
SIA full year up despite fuel concerns Date Posted: 14 May 2011
Singapore International Airlines saw net profits for the year to March soar to S$1,092 million compared with S$216 million the year before, but the last quarter also saw a hit from rising fuel prices that pushed operating profit down 31%. The group said that the rest of the financial year was likely to be "challenging" due to economic weakness in the US and Europe and the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake. The 2010-11 financial year result included an exceptional item of S$202 million in respect of provision for fines imposed on SIA Cargo [see Note 2 below].
JAL sees Golden Week traffic plunge Date Posted: 14 May 2011
JAL says it saw passengers making domestic reservations nearer to the date of travel in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, as it reported plunging traffic levels during Golden Week. Travel for the Golden Week vacation week, a key travel period in Japan, was down by a nearly third for international travel and a quarter for domestic travel. However, JAL says that the traffic falls were largely offset by cuts in capacity, with load factors of 68.3% near last year's levels.

China Southern Airlines, the first Chinese operator to fly the Airbus A380 aircraft, has signed a contract with Airbus for customized Flight Hour Services (FHS) for its fleet of five A380s, scheduled to be in service from the second half of 2011.

AAPA may expand geographical limits to add more members - writes Neelam Mathews Date Posted: 14 May 2011
The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) is prepared to consider the possibility of widening its present membership base to include India, Andrew Herdman, the trade body's director general told Asian Airlines and Airports.
The AAPA currently limits membership to international airlines based within time zones GMT+7 to GMT+12. This does not include India.
“We would be prepared to consider extending that geographic coverage in the future, and we have spoken in general terms with a number of Indian carriers in the past. [Besides] AAPA welcomes non-member airlines as participants in various AAPA meetings and events,” adds Herdman.
