Following widespread protests against corruption, and a lacklustre and unpredictable political performance from the incumbent government, airport giant Fraport has indicated it is to close its development office in Delhi.
The previous factors, plus a drop in overall growth, especially in the aviation sector, have led the world’s number two airport operator to call it a day and close up shop, citing “disappointment” with the lack of development opportunities in India.
Frankfurt-based Fraport was looking for ventures across services such as airport planning, design, operation, retailing and airport management.
In a Reuters report, Ansgar Sickert, head of Fraport India, was reported as saying the original bullish market of 2006 has simply not delivered. “We were disappointed when none of these opportunities materialised,” he said.
